Landscape transformation from mining to nature reserve in the Bensberg ore district

The idyllic Hardt nature reserve offers much more than just beautiful scenery. Here, on the grounds of the former Blücher mine, you can walk in the footsteps of the Bergisches Land region's ore mining industry.
From the mid to the late 19th century, lead and zinc were mined underground here. Today, a few more or less hidden remnants of the mining operations still stand as reminders of this period.
The circular route takes you along a paved path past the former mine foreman's house and the Roter Bach stream down to the former ore processing facilities of the Blücher mine. Today, you can still see settling ponds, dams, and spoil heaps. From there, a somewhat steeper footpath leads through younger stands of forest until the path passes the so-called "Bear's Cave." From there, the parking lot of the Naturfreundehaus Hardt (Hardt Nature Friends House) is already in sight, where the route ends.
