From the parking lot, we cross the main road and start on the Aggertal cycle path, turning right towards Wahlscheid. Before reaching Kreuznaaf, we leave the cycle path and turn right onto the K34 towards Höffen. After about 300 meters, we take the second right turn, which leads us up a well-paved but rather steep road through the forest to Grimberg. Today, Grimberg is a small, predominantly agricultural village, which was first documented around 1200. At that time, miners lived here, as in other places on the "Breidter Rücken" ridge, and extracted ore from the nearby mines. Relics of these activities can be seen in various places in the Naafbach valley with good local knowledge; Grimberg lies directly above one of these mine shafts.
We drive up Röllberger Straße through the so-called "lower village" until we reach a bus turnaround, which also serves as the village center. The large yew tree to the right of the small half-timbered house is a designated natural monument. We then follow the long road up to the K 37, which we cross, continuing along the farm track past ponies and goats into Salgert. From here, we descend the hill to Geber and then drive around the village.
We drive along a farm track offering beautiful views over the Jabach valley until we reach the agricultural road leading to the Breidtersteegsmühle mill in the Jabach valley. Grain is still ground using water power at this mill today. Guided tours of the mill are available for kindergarten and school groups; the mill also sells organic products, animal feed, and gardening supplies.
We cross the road and follow the farm track until we reach the road “Auf dem Luxenberg” below the kindergarten and the gymnasium in Breidt.
Anyone wishing to take a short break should turn left and drive the few meters uphill to “Haus Wacker”, a restaurant with a beer garden.
Those wishing to continue should follow the path leading into the small valley. Passing a small but worthwhile wetland habitat, we remain in the valley and continue along the well-maintained farm track, always parallel to the K37, into Krahwinkel. Following this road, we soon reach the "Dorfstraße" (Village Street), which we follow uphill to the left until we reach the "Krahwinkler Straße" (K37). We then follow this road to the right, crossing the B56. At the next junction, we turn right via Pohlhausen to Hochhausen, where we cross the B56 again at the "Hochkreuz" (High Cross). After a left-right combination, we pass through Birk and continue via Algert down to Lohmar. Passing the fish farm, we turn right towards the main road and follow it back to our starting point in Donrath.
