- Start: Ohler Wiesen, Wipperfürth
This cycle route is part of the Kirchdorfradweg Wipperfürth, a series of cloverleaf-shaped cycle routes that together lead through the church villages around Wipperfürth.
The section of the Kirchdorf cycle path described here leads from the Ohler Wiesen car park (common start and finish point near the center of Wipperfürth) via the villages of Ohl, Großfastenrath, Dörpinghausen and Wasserfuhr back to the Ohler Wiesen car park in Wipperfürth.
This section of the route begins gently and levelly on the old railway line that runs through the Wupper Valley, where the river is still called the Wipper. There are pleasant rest areas at regular intervals, a birdwatching station, and two stations along the Milk Trail where you can learn about dairy farming in the Bergisches Land region. If you wish, you can make a short detour to the Protestant church in Klaswipper. In Ohl, a side trip to the Powder Museum in Villa Ohl is recommended. Beyond Ohl, the route climbs: After a moderately challenging, approximately 600-meter ascent, you'll be rewarded with fantastic panoramic views in all directions. Beyond Großfastenrath, you'll reach the impressive dam of the Kerspe Reservoir. After about 3 km, turn left towards Fuchsloch (Gut Voswinckel). Caution: Before reaching Fuchsloch, there's a short, quite steep descent. Passing the house on the left, you'll continue onto a forest path and then between two wind turbines to the village of Dörpinghausen. Rolling downhill with a beautiful view of the Hönnige Valley, you reach Wasserfuhr. Continuing along a paved road, you reach a high-level path that ultimately offers a lovely view of Wipperfürth. The route then follows the banks of the Wupper River back to the Ohler Wiesen parking lot.
The route starts out flat, then becomes mostly hilly. The path is largely paved or cobbled, with two sections following well-maintained forest/field tracks. Cyclists of all ages can enjoy the typical Bergisches Land landscape around Wipperfürth on this route.
