On foot to the pharmacy of nature
The 16.5-kilometre circular trail leads from the Seelscheid district into the nature reserves of the Wenigerbach and Naafbach valleys. Along the way, hikers can learn interesting facts, legends and very practical information about medicinal plants that can still be found in the Bergisches Land region today from twelve information boards.
"You have to take your hat off to the elder" is an old saying. But stinging nettle, wild mallow and St. John's wort also have healing powers that are hardly known today. Even Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet knew about the wound-healing effect of ribwort plantain. And birch spores were also found on the 5300-year-old glacier mummy "Ötzi" - a remedy for gastrointestinal complaints.
In addition to interesting journeys through time, the "herb trail" also offers practical tips - on tasty recipes for the kitchen as well as the healing effects of camomile and co. But be careful: before you treat yourself with medicinal herbs, please ask your doctor or pharmacist!
The trail has a total of 12 information boards. We would like to thank Uwe Rausch, who looks after the trail as a volunteer trail patron.
