The Song Trail invites you to sing.
Under the direction of Johannes Schmidt and with the active support of Norbert Striegan, the Hohkeppel 1954 e.V. local history society has created a song trail in Hohkeppel. The approximately 3,8 km long circular route begins at the "White Horse" and leads first through meadows and high forest into the valley, then to the water and on past beautiful viewpoints back to the "White Horse". Numerous signposts mark the way, making it virtually impossible to get lost.

Along the hiking trail, 12 stations offer not only comfortable, rustic benches for resting, but also song boards for singing old Bergisches Land folk songs. The lyrics can be read from the song boards, and the corresponding melodies can be downloaded via a dedicated app using the QR codes attached to the boards.

After warming up with the "Bergisches Heimatlied" at the White Horse statue, the following songs will be offered for singing along the way:
  • Up, you young wanderer
  • Am Brunnen vor dem Tore
  • The mill clatters by the rushing stream.
  • Hiking is the miller's delight
  • Enjoy life
  • My father was a wanderer
  • In the early morning dew up the mountain
  • High on the yellow wagon
  • Welcome to God's beautiful world!
  • Do you know how many stars are
  • No beautiful country
  • Now come the fun days

But visitors to the Song Trail can enjoy more than just hiking and singing; there are also several attractions to see: a Kneipp water-treading basin, a weather station, an "old castle," a dwarf's cave, and a Marian altar. At a thanksgiving altar in the valley, those who wish can place stones inscribed with words of gratitude or sayings. Riddles carved on plaques can also be solved.
The Liederweg (Song Trail) is therefore an exciting and varied hiking route for young and old. It is particularly suitable for school classes and groups of all kinds.
The starting and ending point of the round trip is at the "Weisse Pferdchen" in Lindlar-Hohkeppel, a former coachman's inn in a beautiful old half-timbered house.

Directions

The Song Trail begins at the oldest house in the municipality of Lindlar, the old coachman's inn "Weisses Pferdchen" (Little White Horse). From here, the trail descends towards the Agger Valley, passing the "Bergische Wetterstation" (Bergisch Weather Station) to the "Dankaltar" (Altar of Thanksgiving) and the "Altes Schloss" (Old Castle). Here you'll find a waterwheel and a Kneipp water-treading basin. A little further on is the "Mariengrotte" (Mary's Grotto). Following the path down the valley, you'll reach the "Zwergenhöhle" (Dwarf Cave). In Oberhasbach, you can enjoy the beautiful view of the Agger Valley before passing Kleuelshöhe – with its impressive views stretching as far as the Siebengebirge (Seven Hills) – and returning to Hohkeppel.
