A hiking trail featuring scenery, Luther, and the love of God.
In 1517, Luther published his 95 Theses in Wittenberg, triggering a worldwide upheaval in the Christian world. He was overwhelmed by the external changes, yet his primary goal was to transform people's inner relationship with God. Luther was also—among other things—a mystic who wanted to bring people closer to the "religious experience." The Upper Bergish Luther Trail around Lieberhausen is dedicated to this aim, with the "Bonten Kerke" (Painted Church) of Lieberhausen as its starting and ending point. Here, landscape, Luther, and the love of God are interwoven.

The route features eight stations. Each station includes a guided meditation, which you can read in a brochure available at the Protestant church in Lieberhausen. You can also listen to the meditation by scanning the corresponding QR code in the brochure with your smartphone. At each station, you'll also find interesting quotes from Luther and quotations from the Bible. Simply set out on this journey with Luther. Perhaps, like Luther, you too will discover more than you ever expected…

The trail is marked with a large L inside a white circle. It's 11,5 km long and, like life itself, has its ups and downs, but is manageable for inexperienced hikers. The scenery offers everything the Oberberg region has to offer. Both the outer and inner paths can be followed simultaneously.
