from the "apple of discord" of the Greek gods to the fallen fruit that is said to have rudely awakened the physicist Newton from his midday nap and inspired the law of gravitation, to the bitten company logo of a major computer and software manufacturer.
This 5,9 km circular hiking trail takes you on a journey "Through the Ages with the Apple." Five information panels explain, among other things, why the ancestor of all apple trees stood in Kazakhstan and why the "fruit of knowledge" in Paradise wasn't originally an apple at all. Hikers of all ages will learn what bears had to do with the "abduction" of the apple to Europe, how Charlemagne championed pome fruit, and what motivated William Tell to shoot an apple off his son's head. Practical tips, recipes, and apple-based home remedies for various ailments are also provided. For younger hikers, the popular German children's television character "Die Sendung mit der Maus" (The Show with the Mouse) explains the topics. In addition, signs and panels from the NABU (German Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union) offer further information about fruit. Each information panel provides interesting facts for adult hikers as well as child-friendly texts featuring the mouse from the popular children's program "Die Sendung mit der Maus" for younger hikers.
The trail has a total of 5 information panels and 2 audio stations. We thank Frieda Richter, who maintains the trail as a volunteer trail steward.

Directions
The "Fruit Trail" is a circular hiking route that follows roads, farm tracks, and paths. After approximately 500 meters on lightly trafficked roads, the trail leads steeply uphill on a narrow path through the Hühnerbusch woods to the first orchards (not suitable for strollers). From there, the route continues along wide farm tracks to orchards in Hülstrung and Scheidt, before ascending again via narrower, unpaved paths to Bennert. From Bennert, the "Fruit Trail" follows the L359 road to Bergerhof and then descends to Leichlingen via paved farm tracks and small roads. Beyond Bergerhof, there is a fantastic view across the Rhine plain. Due to the paths, this section is not suitable for strollers.
