Following the trail of earlier gunpowder transports
Beautiful hiking trails wind through the Dhünn and Eifgenbach valleys. Few would suspect that this was once a center of the gunpowder industry. Where hikers now seek relaxation, factories stood until 1919, harnessing water power to produce gunpowder in their mills. The observant hiker can discover the remains of these mills, watercourses, and weirs from that era in the Helenental valley.
