With the “most industrious stream” through Bergisch Gladbach - on the Strunde trail from the source to the Cologne city limits.

Attention: The Strundeweg trail is currently closed between Alte Dombach and Herrenstrunden for safety reasons due to erosion of the Strunde dam. Hikers are being rerouted via the Höhenweg trail. (Status: April 30, 2026)
The Strunde is something you simply have to experience! Along this short stretch of the river, its banks are dotted with many eye-catching sights, such as: the Maltese Commandery and mill, Zweiffel Castle and the Herkenrath Gate, the Dombach Ensemble, the Zanders Cultural Center, the historic administration building of the paper mill, the Gronauerwald garden settlement with its remarkable Gründerzeit architecture, and the Gierath and Schlodderdich mills, before the Strunde disappears beyond the city limits towards the Rhine.

If you wish to return to your starting point after the hike, you can take bus line 436 from Gierath towards Bergisch Gladbach (S) and change at the Bergisch Gladbach Markt stop to bus line 426 towards Broch/Wende. This line goes through Herrenstrunden. Further information can be found here: www.vrs.de.
