Eleven dams on one holiday route - discover the region with the most dams in Europe by motorhome, car or motorcycle.
With its 12 reservoirs, the Bergisches Land region is the most reservoir-rich region in Europe. No other region in Europe has so many reservoirs, originally built for drinking water supply and flood control. You can discover this unique feature on the approximately 150-kilometer route, which takes you past eleven reservoirs. Since seven of the reservoirs are still used exclusively for drinking water, you can't get too close to the shore, but there are plenty of magnificent viewpoints offering stunning views of the sometimes very intricate reservoirs, as well as footpaths that allow you to get closer to the water. This is also the case at the Wiehl Reservoir, where the tour begins. There, you can only reach the vicinity of the Krombacher Island, famous from television, on foot. Afterward, the route leads you past reservoirs that are also open for swimming, such as the Agger Reservoir, the Brucher Reservoir, and the Bever Reservoir. The route guides you along a linear tour, offering beautiful views and opportunities to stop for refreshments along the way, all the way to the Große Dhünntalsperre reservoir.
