Kutt nom Dom! Hiking around Marialinden

The Marialinden Citizens' Committee has developed four hiking routes through the Bergisches Land region around Marialinden. The routes vary in character, length, and hiking time. They lead along paths and trails through forests, across meadows, and past streams and rivers. The starting and ending point for all routes is Marialinden Cathedral.

All four circular routes are marked (M1-M4). Sturdy footwear is strongly recommended. The citizens' committee accepts no liability for the hiking trails.

Directions

The hike starts at the fountain in front of the church in Marialinden. We leave the cathedral towers behind us and walk west along the pilgrims' road, STRAIGHT AHEAD into the old Roman road. The "Overath Pilgrim's Way" (16) is excellent. Where a path branches off to the right and the pilgrimage route signpost is located, we leave this path and the road. We walk LEFT into a meadow path, which we follow (see below). Map in the flyer). After descending through the forest, we reach a paved road. We turn LEFT there. After a short time, the houses of Kirschbaum come into view; there we walk HALF RIGHT. After a left-hand bend in the settlement, we reach the district road a few meters further on. We walk to the RIGHT. We cross the road towards the Landgasthaus Sonne and walk on the RIGHT again. Now we follow the "Overath Pilgrim's Way" (16) for a while, which leads into the forest on the LEFT shortly after the country inn. The route descends 150 meters in altitude into the Aggertal valley over the next half hour. In Schiefenthal, our hike leads us between the houses, still on the pilgrimage route. A little further down, a great view opens up over the Agger valley. Pay attention in the Wasser district: We are reaching a signpost. Here we leave the "Overath Pilgrim's Way" (16) and turn LEFT. "Gut Eichtal" is signposted. The path continues along the banks of the Agger river. At the Agger bridge we cross the road and walk STRAIGHT AHEAD, initially still along the Agger river. After passing the school complex, we walk a short distance uphill to the left, past the sports field. Directly behind the sports field, however, we turn RIGHT and after a few meters turn LEFT again to cross the Agger on a bridge. Now we are at "Gut Eichtal" and are hiking on the other side of the river to the LEFT. "Zuweg zum Bergischer Weg" and "Much" are signposted. After a few minutes we cross a second road. Cross the bridge back to the other side of the Agger river. Now pay attention again, because 20 m beyond the bridge the path continues to the RIGHT via the access path to the Bergischer Weg. "Much" is signposted again. We come across the "Bergischer Weg" and follow it to the LEFT. The path now leads uphill for a while along a beautiful trail. We initially always follow the markings of the "Bergischer Weg" trail until we cross the ridge again near Eulenthal after another 150 meters in altitude. ATTENTION: Where we reach the residential area in Leyenhaus, the "Bergische Weg" branches off to the left. However, we are now turning sharply RIGHT! After a few meters we have to cross the district road. There's a nice bench there and we have a great view: to the south you can see the Siebengebirge hills. To the left of it is the church of Neunkirchen. To the west, the view extends to Honrath on the other side of the Agger valley. We walk STRAIGHT AHEAD towards "Camping Paul". From here the trail descends into the Naafbach valley. The restaurant "Zum Camping Paul" invites you to take a break. Our route continues to the RIGHT past the restaurant, down the paved road into the Naafbach valley. Down in the valley, by the beautiful bench, we walk to the LEFT. The route now continues for a while through the beautiful Naafbachtal nature reserve. There are benches everywhere that invite you to rest. ATTENTION: BEFORE the paved path leads over the bridge visible on the right, we walk approximately... Turn 30m LEFT uphill and then RIGHT onto the path across the meadow into the forest. A little later we come across the "Bergischer Weg" again. In the seventies there were plans for a drinking water reservoir, but these are not currently being pursued. We need to cross the district road, go 20 meters to the LEFT and then continue to the RIGHT on the "Bergischer Weg". At the signpost we leave the "Bergischer Weg" and hike to the LEFT. "Marialinden" is signposted. Following the signs for "Zuweg zum Bergischer Weg", we cross the stream to the LEFT and shortly afterwards turn sharply RIGHT. It leads along a beautiful path through the forest. Later we have to jump over a small stream. At a fork in the road we come across the "Overath Pilgrim's Way" (16), which we follow to the HALF RIGHT. Where the pilgrimage route branches off to the left, however, we continue STRAIGHT AHEAD. The path climbs steeply up the mountain. Having reached the top in the Marialinden district of Meegen, we continue walking to the LEFT, uphill for another short, steep stretch. We now continue to follow the path through the residential area. The Marialinden Cathedral will soon come into view. We cross the roundabout and have almost reached the final climb. After 3 hours and 25 minutes of pure walking time, we reach our starting point again.
