"He was once at home on a hundred roads, he drove through the country in wind and weather."
This 13.5-kilometre circular trail accompanies hikers on the trail of the "Bergischer Fuhrmann" to the Brucher dam and through old hollow paths to Müllenbach. Along the way, information boards invite you to stop where the carters used to rest. Along the way, you will learn why Marienheide was built at the crossroads of two ancient long-distance trade routes, how iron ore used to be smelted in today's Eulenbecke nature reserve and how uncomfortable it was to travel by stagecoach.
The stories that carters liked to tell in the numerous carters' pubs are just as much a topic as the dangerous job of transporting highly explosive black powder over bumpy roads. Almost incidentally, there is also a popular leisure area to discover between a dam, a place of pilgrimage and a "Bonten Kerke".
Marienheide is a stage of the "Bergischer Panoramasteig".
The trail has a total of 8 information boards and 2 audio stations. We would like to thank Andreas Rüffler, who looks after the trail as a volunteer trail patron.
