The Heimatstube (local history museum) is considered an important institution of Transylvanian culture outside of Romania.
The collection on display includes traditional costumes, jewelry, embroidery, fur work, ceramics, and painted furniture from farmhouses. The exhibition offers insights into the customs and traditions of the Transylvanian region, a tradition and culture that is still practiced today and dates back over 800 years.
The reason for the exhibition in Drabenderhöhe is the history of the town, which, with the settlement of the Transylvanian Saxons starting in 1964, has profoundly shaped the town to this day. A large housing estate grew up on the outskirts of the old village in just twenty years, and the people living there preserve their culture and traditions with great dedication.
For example, a Transylvanian retirement home and a memorial tower were built, directly linked to the history of the Transylvanian Saxons.
The guided tour of the cultural center also includes a visit to the Transylvanian retirement home and the Tower of Remembrance, because there are also very interesting collections to discover here.
